How to Prepare for a Hot Tub Removal

May 2, 2026 · TLC Junk Removal & Demolition

A hot tub is one of those jobs where an hour of prep saves a day of work.

1. Drain it completely

Use the drain valve and a hose to a safe discharge point, then remove any remaining water with a wet vacuum if you have one. A full tub weighs thousands of pounds and cannot be moved.

2. Disconnect the power — properly

Hot tubs run on dedicated circuits, often 240V. Have a licensed electrician disconnect and cap the supply before the crew arrives. We do not touch live electrical work.

3. Clear the route

Measure the narrowest point between the tub and the truck — gate, corner, doorway. If the shell will not fit, it gets cut apart on site, which is normal but takes time. Clear furniture, planters and anything fragile from that path.

4. Think about the deck

If the tub sits on a deck, check the deck's condition around it. Removing a tub exposes whatever the deck has been hiding.

5. Tell us about the cover and steps

Covers, steps, lifts and surrounds need to go too. Mention them when you request the estimate so the load is sized correctly.

6. What we handle

Cutting, lifting, loading, disposal and sweeping the area after. We confirm access and safety before any cutting starts.

What it costs

It depends on size, access, deck height and whether the shell has to be cut apart. Send two or three photos with your estimate request and you will get a firm number before the crew is scheduled.
